Cecily Melia
Career Background
I began my career working for a large broker in Cape Town, South Africa, in the early 90’s. I started in Personal Lines, moving into Commercial and Corporate broking until I left in 1999 to work in London. My experience in the UK involved providing administration and handling support to corporate clients for Marsh, Willis, and then Aon. At Aon, I was promoted to Account Manager for a portfolio of corporate clients in the Commercial Property, Motor Traders, Financial Institutions and Manufacturing and Retails Industries.
In 2006 I moved back to South Africa with my husband and son. I took up a position as Account Executive for a brokerage in Cape Town, placing and managing an insurance captive for a multi-national retail group. Three years later I resigned and started up my own brokerage. I built up a portfolio of personal clients and commercial businesses, and, in 2015, I joined a large brokerage where I managed our combined book of commercial clients and new businesses. The company went on to become part of an insurance advisory group and I took the opportunity to specialise in managing clients in the hospitality and leisure industry, until 2023 when my family and I returned to settle in the UK permanently.
